Struggling Al Ain become one-man team despite wins 3 Years, 2 Months ago Karma: 0
Abu Dhabi: Al Ain, the team placed second in the UFL and the club with the largest collection of silverware in the UAE, are becoming more of a one-man team.

The team were fortunate not to lose their match against lowly Al Dhafrah in the 13th week of the UFL despite leading 2-0 as their opponents came from behind to settle for a 2-2 tie.

On Saturday, they found themselves trailing again, yet again at home, 1-0 to bottom team Al Khaleej. But individual defensive mistakes of the visiting defenders helped Al Ain win the match 2-1 after a non-convincing performance.

The team played without their star playmaker Jorge Valdivia, who is recovering from an injury sustained while playing for his country, Chile, against South Africa last month.

Mohammad Malulla put Al Khaleej in the lead in the 19th minute. Al Khaleej, who dominated the first half should have scored more goals but their Nigerian striker Abbass Mowya squandered two chances.

Sangahor, levelled the score for Al Ain, seven minutes after the break, when the visiting custodian Jaber Jasim advanced outside his box and collided with his colleague leaving an empty net for Sangahor to score.

The winner for Al Ain was scored by visiting defender Ebrahim Eid who headed the ball into his own net in the 76th minute.

Al Ain are not showing the form that will lead them to winning the title. "We are not a one-man-team." Schaefer denied suggestions at an after-the-match press conference.

"We suffered because we played three strong matches in the UFL and the President's Cup within one week. We missed the services of many key players like Valdivia, Ali Al Waheebi and Faris Jumaa and still we are winning and still we are at the top."
