Ras Al Khaimah: An Emirati woman, who suffered serious gum bleeding after biting on a piece of glass in a pizza purchased from a restaurant here has filed a court case against the restaurant.

She is also demanding huge compensation.

A senior court official on Wednesday said the husband ordered a number of "take-out" bakery items including the pizza, from the restaurant.

The restaurant staff prepared the order and handed it over to the man who took it home for his family.

His wife was the first to taste the meal.

As the woman ate the pizza, blood started oozing from her mouth and she started screaming. She was rushed to hospital where she underwent surgery. She was discharged after few days.

The husband lodged an official complaint against the restaurant when the wife was in hospital.

Ras Al Khaimah Municipality investigated the case and carried out checks on the rest of the bakery items and some pieces of glass were recovered from these items, concluding that the restaurant was fully responsible for the mistake.

The Municipality summoned the owner who confessed to the mistake and pleaded guilty saying "there was no intention to hurt anybody."

The RAK Municipality ordered the restaurant to pay Dh5,000 fine.

Based on the Municipality's report that the restaurant was responsible, the woman lodged an official court case at the emirate's Civil Court demanding compensation that could reach Dh500,000.

The emirate's Civil Court will review the case and could pass its verdict on the same day, said the official.
