Dubai: Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov has launched a verbal attack on the Dubai Police department, accusing it of trying to "defame" the Russian Federation in its implication of his cousin for the assassination of a former Chechen commander here in March.
In a statement issued on his website, Moscow-backed Kadyrov said Dubai was harbouring a "criminal" by allowing his former foe Sulim Yamadayev to live here, saying that the implication of his cousin and right hand man Adam Delimkhanov for the murder overshadowed Yamadayev’s past, which according to him included "the killing of true Muslims".
Yamadayev had moved to Dubai four months ago and was living here under a different name.
He said the Dubai Police statements were "provocative", "groundless", which he said "cannot be taken seriously".
He also alleged that Dubai Police’s conclusion was "hasty".
Kadyrov also questioned the credibility of the Dubai Police investigation, which was concluded eight days after the murder.
Dubai Police has responded by calling for an international investigation.
