DUBAI - Dubai’s existing buildings will be given a grace period to conform to the emirate’s green buildings standards, Adil Afaneh, senior environment planner for Dubai Municipality, said at the Big Five construction conference on Monday, but did not give a specific time frame.
Dubai has adopted international standards to suit local customs and climate, he said. “The regulations are Dubai-based and it is an original system for Dubai, based on Dubai-specific studies and analysis. “We have selected an interface between regulations and ratings. Before implementing we referred to the systems prevailing in Australia, Singapore and the USA.”
